The Selkie And Her Daughter On Land
This R&D production by myself and co-creator Anna Kopacek, in collaboration with Spindrift Theatre, dives into the popular folklore of the Selkie, the seal woman, with particular attention to its themes of abandonment, entrapment, isolation, motherhood, grief, liminality and freedom. Due to the folk story origin, I wanted to design something that felt straight out of an old fairy tale, or at home in a book collection of Celtic folk stories.
Fable Workshop Theatre
Theatrical poster for Fable Workshop for their production The Winter Workshop: The Lost Leaf. Autumn is staying warm for too long, and a Leaf sets out to see if he can do anything to bring the winter a little quicker. So all his friends: a wise tree, a girl, a hedgehog and a robin - can float to the ground like they are supposed to. The client had an option between autumn and winter colours.
We’ll Dance on the Ash of the Apocalypse
Theatrical posters for Spindrift Theatre’s and Melissa-Kelly Franklin’s play We’ll Dance on the Ash of the Apocalypse. The play is about the climate crisis, women’s agency over their own body, political turmoil and two young activists dealing with their powerlessness against these forces. The play features a tomato sprout as a central symbol of hope and progression. In spite of its heavy themes, the play incorporates music, movement sequences, playfulness, humour, love and hope to convey its message to continue the fight for our future.
The poster incorporates a dusty pink hue, reminiscent of the sky after forest fires and a love or passion that is perceived to be frightfully fading. The posters present the central characters clinging to their uprooted tomato plant. There are two versions of the poster, featuring Léerin Campbell and Chris Nester from the American cast, as well as Bergdís Júlía Jóhannsdóttir and Arnar Hauksson from the Icelandic translation and run of the play.
The Icelandic play performed at Reykjavík Fringe Festival in 2022.
The American play was developed at a residency at Dixon Place in New York in 2020.
